What “NGSS-Aligned” Means Inside Our Planetarium

Plenty of school programs stamp “standards-aligned” on the brochure. Here’s what it means when we say it: every one of our 20+ lessons is built around specific NGSS performance expectations, at the grade band your teachers already work from.

The standards, made visible

Space science is scattered through NGSS from kindergarten up — patterns of the sun and stars, the moon’s phases, seasons, gravity, the scale of the solar system, and Earth’s place in the universe. Most of those are hard to demonstrate on a whiteboard. All of them are easy to demonstrate on a dome.

Why does the moon look different every week? Inside the dome, we speed up a month and students watch the phases happen. Why is it colder in January? We tilt the Earth and run the year. The standard stops being a diagram and becomes something they saw.

Age-targeted, pre-K through high school

The same performance expectation shows up differently at different grades, and so do our sessions. A kindergarten group tracks the sun across the sky. A 5th-grade group compares the brightness of stars. A high school group works through scale, orbits, and exoplanets. Teachers pick the lesson; we bring the sky that matches it.

Live sessions beat recorded shows for standards work

A recorded show runs the same regardless of who’s watching. Our sessions are presented live, which means the presenter can check understanding in real time — ask the group to predict where the moon will be tomorrow, then run the sky and see who’s right. That prediction-and-test loop is exactly the science-practice behavior NGSS is built around.

What teachers need to prepare

Nothing. The lesson arrives complete, matched to the grade, and delivered by our educator. If a teacher wants to connect it to a current unit, tell us the unit when you book and we’ll match the session to it — that’s a one-line email, not a planning meeting.
