FAQ
EDUCATIONAL CONTENT
-
We have different programming for different ages, spanning from Pre-K to 12th grade. And you don’t have to choose a single curriculum for the entire day—for example, most schools have us do different presentations for each grade.
-
It’s up to you. We offer dozens of curriculum options, from 360° full dome movies to interactive lessons led by our team.
For example, for pre-K and kindergarten age children, you might choose the full-dome Sesame Street film “One World, One Sky.”
For high schoolers, you may want an instructor-led lesson about planetary orbits and why we observe retrograde motion.
Before the date of your booking, you’ll be able to let us know if there’s a specific curriculum you want us to cover—or you can let us choose something age appropriate.
-
Yes. Our programs support NGSS and state science standards related to Earth and space science.
-
Absolutely. We can tailor shows by grade level, specific curriculum goals, or even seasonal themes like eclipses or meteor showers.
-
No, we serve all kinds of groups! For example, we love visiting summer camps (so long as there’s a suitable indoor space).
Many of our clients want to have us because it’s so much fun to experience the dome, our selection of outstanding 360° films includes plenty that are more fun than educational.
-
No, we have presentations for all ages! We can do programming for adults: both educational presentations utilizing the full capacity of our planetarium software; corporate events with more of a just-for-fun vibe; and whatever else you might have in mind.
We tend to be something completely new and different for your group, and that makes us exciting for every age.
-
Yes, our interactive lessons are tightly scripted to stay on topic—there’s a lot to cover in 20-25 minutes! That said, we’re usually able to answer student questions and adapt on the fly as needed for each group.
-
Our presenters are experienced working with children and are trained in both our Starry Night software and our age-specific lesson plans. All Galaxy on the Go presenters pass a background check.
DOME CAPACITY
-
For younger grades, about two classrooms. For high schoolers, about one classroom at a time.
We typically figure 50 second graders fit comfortably in the dome, 40 sixth graders and 30 teenagers. The key word is “comfortably”—when necessary we can push these numbers a little.
-
Typically each presentation takes 25-30 minutes, including greeting and instructions before students enter the dome. You should plan for groups to come in every half hour. For full-day bookings, we need at least one half hour break in the middle of the day.
-
It depends on the age of your group and how long your school day is. For a K-5 school, we can get through about 500 students in a 7-hour school day. If your school is larger than that, you will likely need to have us two days.
Setup and logistics
-
On the floor. (The dome goes over and around everyone, but not under—students will be on the actual floor of wherever we set up.)
-
It takes about 30 minutes to set up, and about 30 minutes to pack up when we’re done.
-
Our dome is 6 meters in diameter, about 20 feet. We need a space at least 25×25—like a gym, multipurpose room or large library meeting room. We also need at least 13 feet vertical clearance. (Any room with a regulation 10 foot basketball hoop with a full size backboard is going to be big enough.)
-
Just a standard 3-prong electrical outlet within 50 feet of where we’re setting up.
-
Yes. For safety, comfort, and optimal projection quality, the dome must be set up indoors.
